How It Started
My Health Coach journey started long before I even knew what a health coach was. I was in the Philippines and had the opportunity to help and observe Doctors from Doctors Without Boarders. All I was able to do was stand and hold a bag of "hazardous" waste (honestly it was a plastic bag full of used cotton swabs). I stood there for 4 hours observing and I loved every second of it. Once the clinic was over, the doctor looked at me and said "You were made for the medical field". I asked why she thought that because I didn't see that for myself and she said she knew because nobody would stand for 4 hours holding a plastic bag that could have easily been placed on the floor, not unless they were interested in medicine.
I took that to heart and really began thinking about it. I went so far as becoming certified in Primary Health Care and taking that to Papua New Guinea.
Long story short, on that trip to Papua New Guinea I learned that medicine is not always the answer and more often then not is just given as an internal bandaid to cover up the issue without actually healing. (Don't get me wrong, medicine is amazing in certain cases, but overused and unhelpful in others).
A few years down the road and I was not in the medical field, but still striving to find out what my place could be in the field of health. I finally went to school and became a certified health coach so that I could help others like myself in their journey to reclaim their health. I do it for all of those who I have lost along the way, all of those family and friends alike who could have lived if only their lifestyle and food choices had been just slightly different.
I am still on the path to learn more and teach others more. Just this morning I applied and was accepted for a school with Institute for Integrative Nutrition to learn about Gut Health.
I am so excited to learn more for my own health but also the health of all my clients and potential clients. Knowledge is Power, never stop learning.
